There are several Benches located around the reserve, in most cases they have been installed at the wishes of a benefactor and dedicated to the memory of a deceased relative who enjoyed the open landscape of the Lancing Ring reserve. I have taken photo’s of the seats and present them here..

Cyril William Ring
Cyril Ring was born in the British Legation Colony in Shanghai in 1931, where his father was a NAAFI manager. The family returned to UK when Dad was about 3, they took a house in Epsom which remained the family home until the early 1970s. Dad was called up for National Service about 1950, but passed exams for AP to Sergeant and so did 3 years effectively as a Regular Soldier, as I understand things. He served in the UK for 3 years I think, but re-enlisted 6 months after leaving and was posted to Korea then later Japan, his regiment was the Royal Army Pay Corps. After leaving the army for the second time he travelled to Canada for some years working at, I think, the Royal Bank of Canada. On return to the UK he worked at Lloyds bank in Worthing, where he met my mother. Dad transferred to the new Registrars Department in Durrington where he remained until retirement progressing to the rank of Personnel Director. During his retirement he was an active member of the Ramblers Association and Sussex Downsmen, and was keen calligrapher. He passed away Jan 5th 2000 while pathfinding a walk he was planning on leading the next week.

Friends of Lancing Ring 
Rosie and Peter Pescod were my parents they both died within a week, my father from a stroke and my mother from a broken heart and instead of flowers, we asked for donation for a bench. Where our father used to walk twice a day round the Clump with his dog Mush. The position was chosen not only because it was where our father walked but my mother used to live in Howard Road where the bench overlooks . Frances, Philip & Susan.
