Site of Nature Conservation Importance (SNCI)

The majority of Lancing Ring Local Nature Reserve is designated with SNCI status.

This means that it is a locally important site of nature conservation adopted by local authorities for planning purposes and identified in the local development plan.

The criteria for the site should match at least one of the following

  • It contains good examples of a particular type of semi-natural habitat
  • It contains species of flora and fauna which have restricted distribution in West Sussex
  • It is of significant nature conservation value within an urban area
  • Rural sites must be of County-wide importance.
