Planting the Jubilee Diamond

Around  60+ Friends of Lancing Ring including the Chairman of Adur District Council, Peter Metcalfe and the Adur Watch team with Graham Gunn, gathered on Sunday morning to take part in the creation of a Jubilee Diamond, consisting of Spindle, Whitebeam and Beech with a centrepiece of an Oak sapling.
The oak was  planted by FoLR chairman Henry Heath with a short ceremony, assisted by a very young member of the assembled crowd.
Henry made this declaration “We’ve got a very special tree, a Royal Oak” and reading from the label which said ‘this sapling has been grown from a seed collected from one of the Royal Household Estates’, he added “You won’t get a more important tree than this one!”

One response to “Planting the Jubilee Diamond

  1. We had such a lovely morning, the weather was beautiful, as was the atmosphere. Our children (Mea aged 5 and Lucy aged 7) will be able to watch, with us, the diamond wood grow, and when the wood is mature they will know they were a part of Lancing’s natural history. Thanks to everyone who organised it. Best regards Martin, Sasha, Lucy and Mea x
